Officer Guo Tingyu of the Qingshan District Public Security Bureau in Wuhan, Hubei, has been awarded the Second-Class Merit for solving the province's first cryptocurrency theft case. The young officer, a computer science graduate from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, joined the police force in 2023 and quickly made a name for himself in the Cybersecurity Unit. Guo successfully traced and apprehended suspects involved in a counterfeit crypto wallet scam that defrauded victims of over RMB 300,000.
Guo's investigation revealed that the counterfeit app had bypassed app store reviews, amassing tens of thousands of downloads and involving illicit funds exceeding one hundred million yuan. His efforts led to the arrest and punishment of five suspects. In addition to this case, Guo has been instrumental in solving multiple cybercrime cases, including a significant ransomware attack on a local company, showcasing his expertise in cybersecurity and dedication to justice.
