X Corp. has sent cease-and-desist letters to Nitter, an open-source third-party frontend for viewing public X posts without logging in, demanding a permanent shutdown of related instances and removal of the project’s code repositories. X alleges Nitter illegally bypassed API restrictions, scraped platform data, and improperly accessed accounts and session tokens. Nitter.net has stopped operating, and project development has been temporarily suspended while the creator seeks legal advice. X had already moved to limit Nitter’s operation in 2024 by tightening its API policies.
