X, the social media platform owned by Musk, has reportedly settled a copyright dispute with major music publishers, including Universal Music and Sony Music. According to U.S. federal court filings, both parties have agreed to dismiss their respective lawsuits. The music publishers had accused X of allowing unauthorized use of copyrighted music, while X countered with claims of anti-competitive practices by the publishers. The joint request to dismiss the lawsuits was filed in Tennessee and Texas federal courts, with both parties asking for a "Dismiss with Prejudice" ruling, preventing future litigation on the same claims. Despite the legal resolution, neither X, the music publishers, nor the National Music Publishers’ Association have commented on whether a formal settlement has been reached.
