El Zonte, El Salvador, will host the launch of the world's first physical Bitcoin banknote ATM network on January 1, 2026. The Satnotes El Zonte Experiment will feature ATMs dispensing 500 satoshi-denominated banknotes, each backed 1:1 by Bitcoin through the RSK DAO. These banknotes are secured with dynamic QR codes, UV strips, and Schnorr signatures, offering a secure and accessible way to use Bitcoin without the need for seed phrases or cell phones.
The project, compliant with El Salvador's Bitcoin Law, is funded by a Geyser fundraiser ending on November 30, 2025. A franchise competition for local ATM builders is also in progress, with bids due by November 15. The initiative aims to enhance Bitcoin accessibility and adoption in the region.
