Nine Wall Street institutions, including UBS, HSBC, Barclays, Citi, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and JPMorgan, expect the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by 25 basis points on Sept. 16. CME FedWatch data shows market pricing for a 25-basis-point increase has climbed to 87.3%, up from 61.9% at the end of August. August core CPI rose 0.3% month over month, above expectations of 0.2%, while the current federal funds target range stands at 3.50% to 3.75%.
Bitcoin briefly rose above $79,000, triggering more than $100 million in short liquidations within 30 minutes, before retreating to around $77,000.
