Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has announced a comprehensive plan for "Lean Ethereum," marking the network's most significant overhaul since the 2022 Merge. This initiative aims to rebuild nearly every major component of Ethereum over the next three to four years, minimizing disruption to existing applications. The plan, first introduced in July 2025, focuses on integrating advanced cryptographic methods to enhance security and efficiency. Buterin's recent update, following research meetings in Berlin, highlights a revised roadmap, internally referred to as a strawmap. A key priority is quantum safety, addressing concerns that future quantum computers could compromise blockchain security. This strategic shift underscores Ethereum's commitment to long-term resilience and innovation.
