Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has sold over $30 million worth of ether, according to Arkham Intelligence. The sales, totaling 17,196 ETH, occurred throughout January and early February, reducing Buterin's holdings by about 7% to approximately 224,000 ETH. Proceeds from the sales are intended to support the Ethereum Foundation during a period Buterin described as "mild austerity," as well as fund his biotech nonprofit, Kanro. On-chain data reveals that Buterin's transactions included a significant sale of 16,384 ETH on January 30, with funds routed through CoW Protocol and Wintermute, resulting in 500,000 USDC being sent to Kanro. This charity, founded by Buterin, focuses on open-source biomedical research and addressing existential risks. Historically, Buterin has linked large token sales to philanthropic efforts, including a $1.2 billion SHIB donation to India's COVID relief in 2021.
