He noted significant improvements in their back-end engineering skills over recent years. Buterin pointed out that the current ecosystem already has a wealth of mature foundational infrastructure, reducing the need for developers to build new Layer 1 or complex systems from scratch. Instead, he advised focusing on enhancing client interfaces and user experiences by leveraging existing open protocols, such as developing application-layer products around decentralized social protocols. He stressed that most of the real work and value will emerge at the application and user experience layers, rather than the foundational protocols themselves.
