Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has clarified his past donation of SHIB tokens to the Future of Life Institute (FLI), addressing misconceptions about his involvement in their policy actions. In 2021, Buterin received a large amount of SHIB and other tokens, which he sold for ETH and donated to various causes, including FLI. The institute managed to cash out approximately $500 million, significantly more than Buterin anticipated. Buterin expressed concerns over FLI's shift towards cultural and political actions, diverging from their original focus on existential risks. He warned that large-scale political actions could lead to unintended authoritarian outcomes. Despite differences, Buterin praised FLI's recent initiatives, such as the "pro-human AI declaration," which aims to unite diverse groups and prevent AI power concentration.
