A cryptocurrency user inadvertently paid nearly 1 BTC, equivalent to about $105,000, in transaction fees to send a mere $10 worth of Bitcoin. The transaction, processed in block 923023 by mining pool MARA, included a fee of 1.029 BTC, significantly higher than the usual fees. The user paid 0.9999 BTC to transfer just 0.00010036 BTC. Despite Bitcoin network fees being at a historical low, averaging under $1 for high-priority transactions, it is uncertain if MARA will refund the excessive fee. Previous instances have seen mining pools like Foundry USA Pool and Antpool return substantial fees to users.
