The U.S. Treasury will announce at 11:00 AM Eastern Time on Wednesday the maximum amount of 10- to 20-year Treasury bonds it plans to repurchase, testing Treasury Secretary Bessent’s stated support for the bond market.
On September 10, the Treasury will also disclose the actual purchase amount under the buyback program launched in May 2024. The Treasury previously said it would buy back at least $4 billion in long-term bonds per operation before November 4, up from $2 billion in earlier operations, while retaining discretion to increase the scale if needed.
