The U.S. federal government has sold Anthropic shares confiscated from former FTX executives Nishad Singh and Caroline Ellison to existing investors, according to court documents and people familiar with the matter. The timing of the sale, buyer identities, transaction price, and destination of the proceeds were not disclosed. Singh and Ellison invested $40 million and $10 million, respectively, in Anthropic’s 2022 Series B round. The shares were ordered forfeited after sentencing in the FTX case and were separately received by the government in 2025. Estimates cited in the report valued the holdings at roughly $250 million to $1.1 billion when sold in 2025. FTX bankruptcy filings show the sale proceeds did not appear to have been transferred to the FTX estate as of the end of June 2025, while the Department of Justice said the matter remains in process and that compensating victims is the priority for forfeited funds.
