U.S. authorities have seized over $61 million in USDT linked to a cryptocurrency romance scam, known as "pig butchering." The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced the seizure, which was part of an investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). The funds were traced to multiple cryptocurrency wallet addresses used to launder money stolen from victims on fraudulent trading platforms. Prosecutors revealed that fraudsters typically establish fake romantic relationships to lure victims into high-yield cryptocurrency investments. These scams involve fabricated profit data to build false confidence, and victims are often denied withdrawals or asked to pay additional "taxes." The seized funds were identified through on-chain tracking, demonstrating law enforcement's commitment to combating crypto fraud. This case follows a similar seizure in January, where the U.S. Department of Justice confiscated $400 million linked to the Helix darknet mixing service.
