The U.S. Marshals Service is investigating a significant theft involving over $40 million in seized cryptocurrency, allegedly stolen by John “Lick” Daghita, the son of a government contractor. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT claims Daghita took the assets from a government crypto wallet managed by CMDSS, a service provider for the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice. ZachXBT has confirmed at least $23 million in funds linked to the theft and reported the incident to authorities. The suspect reportedly exposed his control over the wallet by sharing a video in a Telegram group, which led to the on-chain tracing of the funds. The U.S. Marshals Service, represented by Brady McCarron, has refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing investigation. This case highlights ongoing concerns about the transparency and oversight of government-held cryptocurrency assets.
