The U.S. Justice Department has frozen over $25 million in cryptocurrency assets linked to multiple international investment fraud cases. This action, announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the U.S. Secret Service, is part of the "Scam Center Strike Force" initiative, which has recovered over $800 million in assets since its inception in 2025.
On July 21, 2026, five civil forfeiture complaints were filed in U.S. district court to seize the crypto assets, which are tied to scams targeting U.S. and Canadian residents. The frauds involved fake crypto investment platforms, online romance scams, and other deceptive methods. Investigators traced the illicit funds through multiple wallet addresses and mixing services, with significant cases involving over 470 victims and millions in losses. The U.S. Secret Service continues to investigate and collaborate with international agencies to pursue those responsible.
