The US gambling industry, along with tribal and union groups, is advocating for a ban on prediction markets offering sports betting services in upcoming cryptocurrency legislation. According to a report by Semafor, the American Gaming Association (AGA), the Indiana Gaming Association, the AFL-CIO Hotel and Gaming Industry Union Council, and UNITE HERE have collectively urged lawmakers to include such provisions. They argue that prediction markets have led to significant gambling expansion without proper legislative approval, resulting in a $1 billion revenue loss for states since early 2025, a figure contested by prediction market supporters.
