The U.S. Department of Defense has raised its estimate of the cost of the conflict with Iran to approximately $29 billion, marking a $4 billion increase over the past two weeks. Defense Comptroller Jay Hurst attributed the rise to updated expenses for equipment repair and replacement, as well as increased operational expenditures. This update was presented during a congressional hearing, following an earlier estimate of $25 billion at the end of April. While the Pentagon's official estimate stands at $29 billion, some external analysts suggest that the broader economic impact, including long-term military deployments and energy market disruptions, could push the total cost closer to $200 billion.
