US August seasonally adjusted nonfarm payrolls increased by 162,000, beating the 56,000 consensus estimate. The previous reading was revised to 21,000 from an earlier reported decline of 23,000. The August unemployment rate came in at 4.1%, matching expectations and unchanged from the prior 4.10% reading.
