The United States and Russia are reportedly in discussions about utilizing the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant for Bitcoin mining. Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated that the US has shown interest in leveraging its potential stake in the plant for large-scale cryptocurrency mining operations. The plant, which has been under Russian control since March 2022, is currently operated by Ukrainian engineers holding Russian passports. The US has proposed a three-way ownership structure, with each party holding a 33% stake, while Ukraine is advocating for an equal 50-50 split. Despite these negotiations, the plant remains offline. Russia has announced plans to launch a digital asset system by July 1, 2026, which could potentially integrate the plant's capabilities into its broader digital strategy.
