The United Nations’ 2026 Global Risk Report identifies large-scale war as the fastest-rising global risk, climbing 16 places from the first survey in 2024 among 28 tracked risks. The report says 36% of respondents believe large-scale war could occur within one year, while 76% expect it within seven years. Global financial crisis, supply chain collapse, and cyberspace security also moved higher in the rankings. Environmental risks including biodiversity degradation, widespread pollution, and scarcity of natural resources declined in ranking, though climate change inaction, natural disasters, and natural resource shortages remain significant challenges. The findings are based on a survey of about 1,300 respondents from governments, business, civil society, and the UN system.
