Ukraine is set to develop a sovereign large language model (LLM) based on Google's Gemma model, as announced by VEON Group. The project will utilize Google Vertex AI infrastructure and involve Kyivstar and the WINWIN AI Center under the Ministry of Digital Transformation. Kyivstar will serve as a strategic partner, focusing on optimizing the model for the Ukrainian language and training it with selected datasets. The initiative aims to encompass all Ukrainian dialects and cultural contexts, ensuring secure data storage within the country. This LLM is expected to enhance AI-based services across public and private sectors in Ukraine.
