UK authorities have frozen about $13.6 million (£10 million) tied to Sorare’s first payment under its four-year Premier League sponsorship deal, as the National Crime Agency investigates possible links to suspected criminal conduct by a third party. The funds were held in a Premier League Barclays account and were frozen under the Proceeds of Crime Act to prevent them from being moved during the probe. Sorare’s agreement with the Premier League is worth about $163 million in total. Separately, Sorare is being prosecuted by the UK Gambling Commission on three charges of operating an unlicensed gambling business, in what is described as the agency’s first public prosecution against a blockchain platform. The trial is scheduled for June 2027. The Premier League is not currently suspected of wrongdoing.
