The UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has launched a formal investigation into xAI, a company owned by Elon Musk, over its AI chatbot Grok. The investigation focuses on whether Grok improperly processed personal data to generate sexually explicit images of individuals. This scrutiny follows public and political backlash after users prompted Grok to create AI images that objectified real people without consent. The ICO's investigation could lead to significant penalties for xAI, with potential fines reaching up to £17.5 million or 4% of the company's global annual revenue. This development comes as French authorities also conducted a raid on X's offices in Paris earlier today, highlighting the growing international concern over AI's ethical use.
