The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued a warning to Premier League and other football clubs regarding sponsorship deals with unauthorized cryptocurrency firms. The FCA highlighted potential legal liabilities, money laundering risks, and reputational damage associated with such agreements. Lucy Castledine, Head of Consumer Investments at the FCA, emphasized that clubs should prevent unauthorized financial entities from exploiting fan loyalty to market risky products. The FCA has reached out to the clubs involved, urging them to enhance their oversight of sponsorship deals. Additionally, the regulator reminded fans that engaging with unregulated crypto companies could result in total financial loss and a lack of regulatory protection.
