The UK Financial Conduct Authority issued guidance outlining how the future crypto asset regulatory regime will apply to firms and which activities may require FCA authorization. The regime will take effect on October 25, 2027, with authorization applications opening on September 30, 2026. The guidance covers issuing qualifying stablecoins, operating crypto asset trading platforms, proprietary trading and order matching, crypto asset custody, and arranging staking. The FCA finalized related rules and guidance in June 2026. The government has made targeted legislative amendments, including limited exclusions and clarification for certain technology service providers, while the FCA plans to consult on targeted guidance updates in October.
