Between 2023 and 2025, Lin and Wang used encrypted communication tools to steal vast amounts of private data, creating a website with 170 million entries. They profited by selling this data using cryptocurrency. The Haidian District People's Court in Beijing sentenced Lin to seven years and Wang to five and a half years in prison, along with fines, for crimes including infringing on personal information and illegal use of information networks.
