T-Mobile has commenced the distribution of a $350 million settlement to customers impacted by the 2021 data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 76 million US users. The settlement, agreed upon in July 2022, compensates affected customers with payments ranging from $25 to $100, depending on their claims, with some receiving up to $25,000 for significant documented losses. Additionally, T-Mobile is providing two years of free identity protection services to those affected. The 2021 cyberattack compromised sensitive data, including names, addresses, and social security numbers. In response, T-Mobile has enhanced its cybersecurity measures, although the company did not admit fault in the settlement. This follows a separate $33 million penalty earlier this year related to a cryptocurrency theft via a SIM card attack.
