The Sandbox published a post-mortem on its August 22 exploit, saying an attacker used a vulnerability in its Base and BSC bridge contracts to steal 14,742,341.84 SAND from the Ethereum treasury. The amount represents about 0.5% of the token’s maximum supply. The company said SAND on Ethereum and Polygon was not affected, and total supply remains unchanged at 3 billion tokens. It has shared the attacker’s wallet information with TRM Labs and Chainalysis, contacted relevant exchanges, and is launching a compensation plan. Eligible users who held Base or BSC SAND in a compliant manner before the incident will receive Ethereum-based SAND at a 1:1 ratio. The claim process is expected to open within two weeks.
