Thai regulators have ordered TIDC Worldverse to cease its eye-scanning services and delete biometric data from 1.2 million individuals, citing violations of local data protection laws. The Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) announced that the collection of biometric data in exchange for cryptocurrency is illegal. Tools For Humanity Thailand, the firm behind the service, has suspended its identity verification operations. The PDPC, alongside other government bodies, expressed concerns over data privacy and potential misuse, prompting the Department of Special Investigations to conduct further analysis. Despite the suspension, Tools For Humanity Thailand maintains that it adhered to local regulations and intends to contest the PDPC's decision in court. This move follows similar actions by at least 11 other countries, which have raised privacy concerns or banned World's operations.
