Thai authorities conducted a raid on a suspected illegal Bitcoin mining operation in Lampang province, following reports of excessive electricity consumption that caused nearby power cables to overheat and melt. The raid, carried out by the Provincial Electricity Authority and police, targeted a four-story commercial building. Investigations revealed that the facility was illegally connected to the main power grid, powering multiple Bitcoin mining machines on the fourth floor. The estimated electricity loss exceeds $80,000, while the registered monthly electricity bill was only about $11. Police have seized the mining equipment and are continuing to investigate those involved.
