Tether's USDT stablecoin is returning to the Bitcoin network through Utexo, a new infrastructure provider utilizing the RGB protocol to enable confidential transactions. The architecture employs client-side validation and Bitcoin’s UTXO model to keep transaction details off-chain between counterparties, using the ledger solely to cryptographically demonstrate proof of ownership. This approach offers greater privacy than existing USDT implementations on Ethereum or Tron.
Utexo will provide APIs, SDKs, and cloud infrastructure to support exchanges, wallets, and payment companies. Key use cases include private USDT transfers, direct atomic swaps between native BTC and USDT without intermediaries, and lending protocols that allow borrowers to use native bitcoin as collateral without wrapping assets on other blockchains.
