Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has secured a $10 billion investment from private equity firm TPG for its ambitious $20 billion HyperVault project. This initiative aims to construct gigawatt-scale liquid-cooled data centers to bolster AI workloads, addressing India's significant AI computing capacity gap. Despite generating 20% of global data, India currently holds only 3% of global data center capacity.
The HyperVault project is part of a broader trend, with over $32 billion in recent investments from tech giants like Microsoft and Google in India. TCS plans to initially develop 1.2 gigawatts of capacity, although the project faces challenges such as water scarcity and high energy demand.
