Tangem, a Switzerland-based hardware wallet company, has launched Tangem Pay, a global retail payments service allowing users to spend USDC stablecoin via virtual Visa cards. These cards can be integrated with Apple Pay and Google Pay, enabling transactions wherever Visa is accepted. The service, now available in the U.S., Latin America, and parts of Asia-Pacific, follows an early-access phase that began in November.
Tangem has partnered with Polygon to provide on-chain settlement for transactions, citing Polygon's speed, low fees, and capacity for high transaction volumes. Polygon will cover gas fees during the initial rollout. Tangem plans to introduce physical Visa cards later this year to accommodate users who prefer them. The partnership aims to make self-custody practical for everyday spending, leveraging blockchain transparency with the convenience of traditional payment systems.
