A survey conducted by Tokyo-based consultancy Clabo in February 2026 highlights differing concerns about cryptocurrency among Japanese generations. The study, involving 1,486 respondents, found that Gen Z is primarily worried about social media scams, such as fake airdrops and promotional lures. In contrast, older generations are more concerned about their lack of understanding of crypto mechanisms, with 23.3% of all respondents citing this as a major issue.
The survey also revealed that 50% of participants have never invested in cryptocurrencies. When it comes to sources of crypto information, traditional news websites lead with 38.4%, followed by social media at 36.7%, and YouTube at 31.6%. However, YouTube emerges as the top platform influencing actual investment decisions, with 27% of respondents relying on it for guidance.
