Sullivan & Cromwell has admitted to using generative AI in the Prince Group bankruptcy case filings, leading to false citations. The law firm acknowledged before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court that it failed to verify AI-generated content, resulting in fabricated legal precedents and statutes. The errors were found in a motion filed on April 9, which has since been withdrawn and corrected.
The opposing firm, Boies Schiller Flexner, identified 28 incorrect citations, including non-existent court quotations and misattributed rulings, prompting a request to postpone the hearing. Sullivan & Cromwell's internal policy mandates AI training and verification, which was not followed in this instance.
