Stripe and Paradigm have announced the launch of the TIP-20 token standard on their jointly developed payment blockchain, Tempo. Designed specifically for stablecoins and payment applications, TIP-20 is based on the existing ERC-20 standard used on Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains, ensuring full backward compatibility. Enhancements include transfer notes, compliance controls, and reward distribution features.
The TIP-20 standard allows for the issuance of stablecoins tailored to specific payment use cases, meeting both operational and compliance requirements. Currently, any TIP-20 stablecoin denominated in USD can be used to pay transaction fees on the Tempo network. Tempo also plans to support transaction fee payments using non-USD stablecoins in the future.
