Standard Chartered has launched a tokenized deposit service for corporate clients in Hong Kong, marking the city as its first market to offer the product. Built on the bank's proprietary blockchain infrastructure and the HKMA's EnsembleTX platform, the service enables 24/7 real-time transfer of deposits between participating banks with final settlement in central bank digital currency.
The bank has partnered with Fireblocks to extend the service to digital asset clients, while HashKey has also joined the initiative. Standard Chartered did not disclose transaction volumes or the number of institutions eligible to use the service at launch. The rollout follows the HKMA's announcement that EnsembleTX now supports round-the-clock interbank settlement using tokenized central bank money, with participating banks growing to 12 and industry pioneers reaching 20.
