Speculation is mounting that Google is on the verge of releasing its open-source model, Gemma 4, following cryptic social media activity by key figures at Google DeepMind. Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, posted four diamond emojis on X, while Logan Kilpatrick, a member of Google's technical team, posted a message simply stating "Gemma." These posts have been interpreted as hints towards the imminent launch of Gemma 4. Further fueling the rumors, an anonymous model named "significant-otter" appeared on LMSYS Chatbot Arena, claiming to be Gemma 4. Users on Reddit's r/LocalLLaMA community noted the model's quick response times and its ability to pass baseline capability tests, although it is not focused on reasoning. Google has yet to officially confirm the release of Gemma 4, which is expected to follow the success of its predecessor, Gemma 3, known for its multilingual and multimodal capabilities.
