Spanish police have dismantled an illegal Bitcoin mining operation in Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Barcelona, which was illicitly connected to high-voltage power lines. The operation, discovered by Catalan police, involved 88 ASIC mining rigs and resulted in an estimated €860,643 in electricity fraud, according to Endesa, Spain's national electricity company. This represents the largest electricity fraud in the region's industrial sector over the past year.
Authorities found the mining rigs directly connected to the grid without meters or protective systems, posing significant risks of overload and fire. A 34-year-old suspect has been charged with electricity fraud and appeared in court in Manresa on March 3. Police are currently analyzing the seized equipment to assess the full extent of the operation.
