Spanish authorities have arrested five individuals in Málaga in connection with a violent crypto wrench attack linked to a Bitcoin price surge in April 2025. The incident involved a kidnapping and murder during an attempted cryptocurrency theft. Additionally, four suspects in Denmark are facing charges, with two already incarcerated.
Security expert Jameson Lopp has highlighted a correlation between the increase in such attacks and Bitcoin's rising value, compounded by economic pressures following the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2025 alone, 66 wrench attacks have been reported, with altcoins also becoming targets in the volatile crypto market.
