South Korea's semiconductor exports surged by 173.5% year-over-year in April 2026, reaching approximately $31.9 billion. This significant growth contributed to a 48% increase in the country's total exports, which amounted to around $85.89 billion for the month. The semiconductor boom, driven by high demand for AI-related technologies, has positioned South Korean chipmakers like Samsung Electronics and SK hynix at the forefront of the global market. This marks the second consecutive month where semiconductor shipments exceeded $30 billion, following a record-setting March. The robust performance in the semiconductor sector is a key factor in South Korea's ongoing export growth, which has continued for 12 consecutive months. The country's full-year exports in 2025 surpassed $700 billion for the first time, highlighting a strong recovery from the 2023 downturn in the chip industry.
