South Korea’s KOSPI average daily trading volume fell to 20.6 trillion won, or about $15 billion, in September, marking its lowest level of 2024. The figure declined from 25.77 trillion won in August and was less than half the peak levels recorded in May and June. AI-driven retail buying pushed the index to an all-time high earlier this year, but doubts over returns triggered a 22% sell-off in July. Although the KOSPI has since rebounded, it failed to hold the 7,000-point level. As of September 14, the combined market capitalization of the KOSPI and KOSDAQ had fallen by 212.6 trillion won in one month, down 24.66% from its June 22 peak. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix were 30.1% and 39.3% below their respective highs.
