South Korea's government has commenced legislative discussions on the Digital Asset Basic Act, focusing on stablecoin regulation. The forum, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho, marks the first government-hosted event dedicated to stablecoin legislation. The government, alongside the ruling Democratic Party, aims to pass the bill within the year. As part of the 2026 economic growth strategy announced on July 14, authorities plan to advance the legislation in the second half of the year, aiming to segment the digital asset industry, establish a regulatory framework for business conduct, and lay the legal groundwork for stablecoin regulation.
