South Korea's government will enhance its public procurement program for locally developed AI products, as announced by Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol. The initiative aims to support the AI industry's growth by establishing a review committee in September to expedite market entry for innovative products. Additionally, the program mandates that at least 50% of components in designated products be domestically sourced, reinforcing the local supply chain. The government plans to increase the pilot procurement budget from KRW 52.9 billion in 2025 to KRW 83.9 billion in 2026. Koo highlighted that public procurement will drive AI innovation, aiding companies in expanding globally, with the government acting as the "first customer" for these innovative firms.
