Sony is advancing its blockchain strategy by tokenizing intellectual property (IP) assets on its Ethereum Layer 2 network, Soneium. Kazuhito Hashino, Head of On-chain Business at Soneium, announced that Sony's blockchain initiatives are moving from experimentation to commercialization. The company has rebranded its blockchain division to "On-chain Business Strategy Department," emphasizing blockchain as a strategic focus.
This year, Sony plans to monetize IP assets in music, animation, gaming, film, and sports through Soneium, while developing legal and regulatory frameworks. Additionally, Sony will establish a GP/LP-style investment fund to boost investment in entertainment projects on Soneium. The SPARK incubation program has already attracted over 2,000 DApp applications, with 23 projects funded. Sony's ecosystem also includes the S.BLOX exchange, facilitating fiat-to-digital asset transactions.
