Sonic Research has highlighted vulnerabilities in most Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchains, which depend on elliptic-curve signatures and aggregation schemes susceptible to quantum attacks. These systems face challenges in transitioning to post-quantum security without significant protocol changes and performance trade-offs. In contrast, SonicCS, developed by Sonic Research, utilizes per-event signatures and hash functions, allowing it to adopt post-quantum security measures by simply replacing its signature scheme. This approach enables SonicCS to maintain its core consensus design while enhancing security against quantum threats.
