Sonic has revised its token airdrop strategy, setting aside 92.2 million tokens for future incentives. This adjustment marks a shift from early distribution to a focus on long-term value creation in the cryptocurrency space. Initially, Sonic minted 190.5 million S tokens in June 2025, distributing approximately 98 million during the first half of the year and the Kaito event.
The remaining tokens are earmarked for incentive plans spanning 2026 to 2027. Sonic acknowledged that while the initial airdrop strategy improved short-term metrics, it also led to increased sell pressure. The project plans to use the reserved tokens for future airdrops, incentives, or potential token burns, as it reassesses its token economic model.
