Solana development company Anza has recommended that mainnet validators upgrade to Agave 4.0, a significant update aimed at improving network performance. The upgrade introduces XDP for Turbine, reducing retransmission latency from 600ms to approximately 0.8ms, and implements QUIC-only TPU data ingestion, eliminating UDP transaction ingestion. These changes are expected to provide critical performance improvements as Solana progresses toward 100 million CU blocks.
Agave 4.0 also enhances the replay stage by processing PoH entry verification and Ed25519 signature verification asynchronously. Additionally, the upgrade will gradually activate several SIMD features, including p-tokens, Stake Program v5, SBPFv3 support, pre-funded account creation, and BLS12-381 syscalls, further optimizing block capacity and network efficiency.
