The Solana community is considering a proposal to introduce a resource-consumption-based fee-burning mechanism aimed at improving the SOL token economy. Developer cavemanloverboy suggested charging a base fee of 0.1 lamport per cost unit for each transaction, with the entire fee being burned. This proposal, discussed on the GitHub Solana Improvement Documents forum, could increase the daily burn from the current 648 SOL to approximately 1,500–1,800 SOL.
The proposed mechanism is expected to impact market makers' fees by 3–5% and significantly increase ordinary users' transaction costs by over 600% in some cases. The implementation of this mechanism is contingent upon the Alpenglow consensus upgrade and is still under community discussion.
