Lily Liu, President of the Solana Foundation, emphasized blockchain's potential to democratize global capital access during her keynote at the 2026 Hong Kong Web3 Carnival. Liu highlighted the disparity in capital formation, noting that 94% of global market capitalization is concentrated in just 20 stock exchanges across 14 countries, primarily in the U.S. She proposed an "Internet Capital Market" where assets worldwide can raise capital globally, facilitated by stablecoins and Solana's blockchain infrastructure.
Liu also introduced the concept of "Universal Basic Ownership" (UBO), contrasting it with Universal Basic Income (UBI). She argued that blockchain technology could empower individuals globally to own stakes in their economies, fostering digital-era property rights without reliance on welfare systems.
